Omer Park

Chilean city called Puerto Williams is for tourists not only an opportunity to take a walk on a yacht through intricate canals or enjoy the splendor of local fjords, but also visit the ethnographic park of Omora.

Omora Park - description

Omora Park is located 3 km west of Puerto Williams, in the northern part of the island of Navarino, and is a protected area. It is a place where the nature of the region has remained intact. Here you can see a huge variety of representatives of the sub-Antarctic flora, which include the following:

Its history as an official natural park of Omora begins in 2000. And after some time, thanks to the efforts of sponsoring companies, it officially becomes a place where not only tourists watch the nature, but scientists from different countries can conduct various experiments that do not harm the environment. As a result, they even influenced the activities of local officials and passed laws to protect the ecological environment of the region.

However, there is a park of Omora and the enemies, which, strangely enough, are representatives of civil organizations. This is the Cape Horn Tourism Association, the Neighborhood Association, and the Puerto Williams Fishermen Union, who in 2009 applied to local authorities for an initiative to ban further development of the park and conduct scientific observations on its territory. To the credit of the authorities, they did not accept these arguments and refused to organize the protest.

How to get to the park of Omora?

Go to a place with such a rich history can be on special buses that leave from the bus station in the city of Puerto Williams. The road will take a tourist only 15 minutes.
