The Stock Exchange of Santiago


The Stock Exchange of Santiago was founded in 1893. Attempts to found a stock exchange were made since 1840, at first unsuccessfully, but with the development of industry the number of corporations grew. This entailed the creation of a stock market for transactions with securities.

The reason was not only the economic crisis, but also government intervention in the economy, as a result of financial activity fell sharply. The situation became critical and continued to deteriorate until 1973. The situation saved the decision to implement reforms aimed at liberalization and decentralization of the economy. This gave positive results, and the state of affairs on the Stock Exchange of Santiago improved, it was joined by various financial institutions, such as the pension fund, the volume of exchange trade increased.

Architecture of the building of the Stock Exchange

The building of the Stock Exchange Santiago deserves special attention. In 1981, this building was declared the National Monument of Chile . This happened not only due to rich history and state significance, but also because the building itself is an architectural value.

The building was built in 1917 by architect Emile Jackuer in the heart of the city on the Rue de Bandera street.

Emil Jackuer is a famous Chilean architect. He is the author of the Museum of Fine Arts and many other monuments of Chile.

In 1913, the land for building was bought from Augustinian nuns. The construction lasted 4 years, and all this time the architect Jackuer was engaged in his brainchild. For construction only premium materials were used, which from Europe were first delivered to the United States, and then forwarded to Chile.

The four-story building was built in the style of the French Renaissance with many small details. The entrance to the Stock Exchange is decorated with double columns, the facade is very beautiful. The symbol is the clock under the dome.

On the red metro line, you need to get to the University of Chile (Universidad de Chile) stop and go north along Rue de Bandera. It can also be reached by buses 210, 210v, 221e, 345, 346N, 385, 403, 412, 418, 422, 513, 518. The Santiago Stock Exchange is close to Freedom Square, where many excursions take place.
