Moreno Square


One of the largest squares in Argentina , today called Mariano Moreno, deserves undoubted attention. It is distinguished by its beauty and exquisite style of decoration of buildings, monuments and squares located here.

History

The fame of Moreno Square brought the historical fact that it was here in 1882 that the city's founding ceremony was held, as well as the foundation stone and memorial capsule. Until the beginning of the 20th century this place was called the Principal Square, and then it was renamed after the Secretary of the First Government.

What is interesting about the Moreno square?

It is a fairly long square with benches, beautifully decorated flower beds and squares, where linden and cedar trees, palms and cypresses grow. Thanks to thoughtful details, this area of ​​the city is a favorite place for romantic walks in La Plata.   1. Palace of the Municipality (Palacio Municipal). Built in 1888 in the style of German neo-renaissance.
  2. The cathedral of the Immaculate Conception , built in 1885-1932. in the Neo-Gothic style and located in the southern part of the square. For the sample in the construction of this temple were taken the cathedrals of French Amiens and German Cologne. The distinctive features of the cathedral on the Moreno Square are two 120 m high belfries and wooden sculptures in the interior. Today there is a museum , a souvenir shop and a cafe.
  3. Monument to Mariano Moreno. It was created by the hands of the master Ricardo Dalla Lasta and installed on the square in 1999.
  4. Sculpture "Divine Arkero". Trojano Trojani created it in 1924 in honor of Hercules the Arco de Boudell.

How to visit?
