Oblique position of the fetus

The oblique position of the fetus is determined if the longitudinal axes of the uterus and fetus intersect at an acute or obtuse angle. If the axes form a right angle, this position is called the transverse presentation . Both cases are considered pathologies, which require serious attention from the obstetrician-gynecologist, constant monitoring and, if necessary, prenatal hospitalization of the pregnant woman.

Childbirth with an oblique presentation of the fetus

It should be noted that oblique presentation of the fetus is a great rarity. According to statistics, the wrong location of the fetus in the uterus is found in no more than 1% for all pregnancies. The location of the baby in the womb is determined starting from the 32nd week of pregnancy, but at the same time up to the very birth there is a high probability that the fetus can independently change its position.

Births with pelvic oblique presentation of the fetus are considered severe and in rare cases are natural. The main problems in this pathology are early discharge of amniotic fluid and premature birth . At natural sorts there is a high probability of trauma of mother and the child, and also an opportunity of a lethal outcome.

If the fetus on the last weeks of pregnancy does not change its position on its own, the pregnant woman, as a rule, is hospitalized. Already in the hospital, doctors perform additional examinations, and also develop a plan for the most optimal delivery. Most often, if pregnancy is diagnosed as an oblique position of the fetus, the labor passes through a cesarean section.

Gymnastics with an oblique fetal position

There are a number of exercises that are recommended to perform with an oblique presentation of the fetus. Experts recommend that a woman alternately lie on each side for 10 minutes, repeating exercise 3 - 4 times a day. You can also lie 10 to 15 minutes 3 times a day, lifting the pelvis 20 to 30 cm above the head. Quite good results give the knee-elbow position, which should be repeated with the same frequency as other exercises.
