Obelisk

In Buenos Aires, the main attraction is the Obelisk. It is an unofficial symbol of the city, uniting all sides of the Argentine megalopolis. From the side it resembles a giant pencil that stretches towards the sky. There is a monument in the center of the Republic Square .

What is interesting about the Obelisk?

It was erected in 1936. In appearance it may seem that the Obelisk is an uncomplicated architectural structure, but if you approach it more closely, you can see what the locals admire so much.

The monument was designed by Alberto Prebisch, a modernist architect of German origin. The obelisk was established in honor of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the capital of Argentina . It was made in 31 days of white stone, mined in the Spanish city of Cordoba.

Each side of the Obelisk symbolizes important moments in the history of the capital:

Currently, the Obelisk is located at the intersection of the two most important streets of the capital of Argentina - Avenida Corrientes , the center of urban entertainment, and Avenue on July 9 , the widest avenue in the world. On November 1, 2005, the landmark was painted in the color of a "Parisian stone" - gently peach.

How to get there?
