Museum of the History of the Republic of Honduras


The Museum of the History of the Republic of Honduras occupies a very important place among the museum complexes of the country, as it tells all lovers of the past about the life of the country after gaining independence from Spain.

History of the museum

The building, which now houses the Museum of the History of the Republic, was built in 1936-1940. It was led by the erection of the architect Samuel Salgado. In the first years after the construction, the owner of the structure was a large American businessman Roy Gordon (that's why the house is sometimes called Villa Roy), then the management fell into the hands of the politics of Julio Lozano Diaz. And since 1979 in this building was placed a collection of the National Museum of History, located here and today.

  1. The exposition of the museum is devoted to the history of the country from 1821, when Honduras gained independence from the Spanish empire. After visiting the tour, you will learn about the life of Hondurans since the foundation of the country in 1823 and approximately until 1975.
  2. The building of the museum consists of two floors, on which there are 14 rooms. The first one has a dressing room. But on the second floor there are rooms for watching movies and temporary expositions, a music room, a natural science classroom where you can see the exhibits of wild animals, as well as Lozano Díaz apartments, furnished with furniture and storing personal belongings.
  3. Attention visitors are also presented an interesting collection of exhibits from the archaeological excavations of the pre-Hispanic period, there are exhibits and colonial times. In another room you will find a living room called "Introduction to the study of man."
  4. Here, on the second floor, is a library and department of ethnography and cartography.
  5. Among the interesting exhibits in the Museum of the History of the Republic of Honduras, you can see copies of the "Independence Act" of 1821, sabers and swords of Honduran politicians, various weapons and personal belongings of famous people of the country.

To visit the Museum of History of the Republic of Honduras, you will fly to the International Airport of the capital of the state, Tonkontin . By the very capital it is easier and more convenient to travel by taxi, but you can also use public transport.

The museum is located in the La Leon area, on Calle Morlos street. From the airport you can get here either on the highway CA-5, or via Boulevard Kuwait. The journey time in both cases is about 20 minutes.
