Manual mechanical coffee grinders

Only the true coffee masters agree to grind the coffee manually, trying to do everything perfectly. After all, the indisputable advantage of hand mills and coffee grinders is that in the process they do not overheat and do not heat coffee beans that retain all their benefits and aroma.

The device of a manual coffee grinder

The design of hand grinders is somewhat different, but at the heart of all of them are millstones, which, spinning, grind the grains. In this case, one millstone is fixedly attached to the bottom of the stand, and the second rotates by rotating the handle.

Manual grinders are of two types - eastern and European. Eastern manual mechanical coffee grinders have a cylindrical shape and are always made of metal. The handle is located at the top, and one part is removable, where the already ground coffee is stored.

European coffee grinders resemble a wooden box, and the handle can be both above and on the side. In them, the capacity for ground coffee is very small.

How to choose a hand grinder?

Before buying a hand grinder, pay attention to the material of its manufacture, especially for millstones. A hand grinder with ceramic millstones is quite fragile and can break if used or dropped incorrectly. However, it has the advantage that the millstones are never worn out and maintain the taste of the coffee just superb. Cast-iron millstones are more durable, but over time they impart a metallic taste to the drink.

Another important point is the functionality of the coffee grinder. And this concept includes such indicators as the adjustment of the degree of grinding, the capacity of the container for ground coffee, the volume of the bowl for grains.

If you prefer to grind coffee before each preparation of a drink, you do not need a large capacity, just like a large bowl for laying grains. And if you want to grind a little in reserve, use this stock as quickly as possible, so that coffee does not lose its delicious flavor.
