Managua cichlzoma

The Managua cichlazoma is a fairly large representative of cichlids , which lives in Central America, in the reservoirs of Costa Rica and Honduras, as well as Guatemala and Mexico, where they have been artificially introduced. These fish are able to reach a size of 55 cm (males) and 40 cm (females). Of course, aquarium cichlazomas are more modest in size, but, one way or another, they look solid enough. Their color is very attractive and original - gray-brown specks on a silvery background, and on the sides are black spots. Adult fish also have yellowish spots, which in time can acquire a golden hue.

Managua cichlazoma - the content

This species of cichlids can not be called very finicky, since in the natural environment they live in calm reservoirs. Ideal for them will be water with a temperature of 25 degrees and stiffness of 20 percent. The volume of the aquarium should exceed 300 liters. For these fish, it will be necessary to ensure good filtration and change the water every 3 days.

As for feeding Managuan cichlases, it is worth remembering the specificity of their habitat in the natural environment: they are active predators and feed on live fish. In aquarium conditions, they need to be fed with small or medium fish, frozen fodder, minced meat and large-scale special feeds.

The Managua cichlasma, despite its fairly large size, is very calm and aggressive rarely. Although its own territory is defended selflessly and most often does not give to anyone.

Cichlazome Compatibility

The compatibility of cichlase of this species is a rather complex moment, since they are predatory. The optimal option is the content of Managuan cichlose of the same size. Red-tailed catfish, Pangasius, Clarious, gourami (giant) and black paca will also work well with them. You can also keep them both singly and in pairs. But even with all their predatory nature, they get used to even small fish, if they grew with them.

As for breeding, aquarium American cichlids calmly form permanent couples and become excellent parents to their offspring. However, the choice of a pair is possible only if several fry grow together and can choose a pair themselves. To stimulate the spawning of cichlasma, it is necessary to feed enough and raise the temperature in the aquarium to 29 degrees.
