This is not surprising, because the country can boast not only a unique nature, but also a lot of historical and architectural monuments that have survived to our days. One of the most ancient sights of Montenegro is the monastery of Kosierevo.

The centuries-old history of the monastery

The history of the shrine is full of trials and tragedy. The first monastery building was erected in 1592 on one of the banks of the Trebeshnitsa River on the donations of King Stephen Dechansky. In times of Turkish dominance, Kosierevo was plundered repeatedly, until in 1807 he was completely burned. After a decade the church was restored by priest Dionisy Dobrichevac. Uneasy times experienced the monastery Kosyerevo during the First World War.

Austrian troops robbed the temple and destroyed it and the cell building. The renewed church appeared here only in 1933.

Relics of saints

The monastery of Kosierevo is known in the religious environment. For 20 years, it housed the relics of St. Arseny Sremsky, brought by Prince Negosh. In the first years of the war of 1914 they were transferred to the temple of the Holy Archangels on Veliml and most recently returned to the monastery. Today clergymen of the monastery keep the foot of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke. Believers from around the world rush to the monastery of Kosierevo to touch the remains of the saints and ask for protection.
