In 1993, Koromni Hurka was recognized as a natural monument of the Czech Republic , and the volcano itself and the area around it received the status of a reserve. The area of this territory is approximately 7 hectares.

Historical reference

Scientists have argued for a long time about what the Komorni Hurka is, after all, a volcano or just a hill. The clarity of this question was introduced by the famous poet, philosopher and naturalist Johann Wolfgang Goethe, who was actively interested in geology. On his orders, a deep channel was dug in the hill of Komorni Hurka, in which volcanic rocks were discovered. This is exactly how it was confirmed that Komorni Hurka is still a young volcano, and not some other natural formation.

Perpetuating Goethe's merit, on the volcano Komorni Hurka his portrait, carved by an unknown artist, is adorned. Under the image it is written that the famous poet contributed to the study of the volcano.
