Landing

To plant kohlrabi, the soil on the site should be light and contain a sufficient amount of organic material (the permissible acidity of pH is 6.7-7.4). The soil must be prepared from autumn, adding liming substances and fertilizers (organic, superphosphate, wood ash, urea). In addition, this plant belongs to the photophilous, so the ideal place for it will be the southern or south-eastern slope. To make the harvest rich, consider the fact that it is not recommended to plant kohlrabi on a site where beets, other varieties of cabbage, radish, tomato, radish or turnips grew during the previous four years. These plants are very depleting the soil. Good precursors for kohlrabi are siderates, onions, cucumbers, carrots, legumes, potatoes or grains.

Before cultivating cabbage kohlrabi from seeds, they should be prepared. To do this, the dried seeds for fifteen minutes are placed in water, the temperature of which is 50 degrees, and then transferred to cold water for one minute. After that, the seeds are placed for twelve hours in a solution of microelements, then washed with water and placed on a day in the refrigerator. After that, the seeds must be dried, so that during the sowing they do not stick to the hands. Typically, seedlings of kohlrabi are sown in the second decade of March. Seeds are sown in a mixture of sand, peat and turf (1: 1: 1). To avoid infection with a black leg, the old vegetable garden and humus are not used, and before planting kohlrabi, the prepared mixture is disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate.

The temperature in the room where the seedlings are located should be within 20 degrees during the first week, and 9 degrees during the second week. Then the range can range from 16 to 18 degrees.

When the shoots have two leaves, cabbage should be fertilized - sprayed with a solution of complex fertilizers . After a week, the seedlings should be sprinkled again with a solution of potassium sulfate and urea (per tablespoon per ten-liter bucket of water). Two weeks before planting kohlrabi seedlings in the ground it must be hardened, taking out for a while on the street. When the shoots have three or four leaves (usually at the beginning of May), you can transplant them to the bed, deepening the seedlings to the first leaves. Two hours before planting, pour a lot of sprouts.

Care

As well as planting, caring for kohlrabi cabbage is not an easy task and it takes a lot of time. First, immediately after planting the seedlings must be shaded for three days. Water cabbage should be every three days, and abundantly. Once a week the soil around the seedlings is loosened to a depth of about eight centimeters. On the twentieth day, sprouts are seeded and fed with mullein (liquid). After another ten days, the hilling is repeated.

When the kohlrabi fruit in diameter reaches ten centimeters (about 10 grams), it is necessary to harvest. If this moment you miss, then all efforts will be reduced to zero, as the vegetable will become rude and lose nutritional value.
