IQ

Who is cleverer: men or women, Katya from the first desk or Anya with the second, a professor of philosophy or a lazy student, chief accountant or tax inspector? To be measured by intellects to mankind, probably, will never get bored. Fortunately, scientists decided to simplify this process and came up with a way to measure a man's mental abilities, expressing them in the form of a coefficient. What exactly these numbers mean and how to determine the intelligence factor, we now find out.

The concept of the coefficient of intelligence

IQ is the quantitative expression of the level of a person's mental faculties. The result is given on the basis of statistical data collected in different age groups. To check the intelligence factor a person must pass a special test. Tasks are designed to determine a person's ability to think process, and not the level of his erudition. That is, the test results reveal the coefficient of mathematical, verbal, spatial and other types of intelligence. Since for each age group there is a type of test, it may well be that the student will be on the same level (or maybe smarter) with a graduate of the university.

IQ tests

Since the introduction of the term IQ, many scales and tests have been developed to determine it. Their options for the test for the intelligence factor were offered by Eysenck, Wexler, Amthauer, Raven and Cattell. The most famous test is Eysenck, but the tests of the other four authors possess greater accuracy. These works differ in different parameters, the correlation coefficient, the number of questions and the subject of tests. For example, after passing Eysenck's test, one can get only a general idea of a person's intellectual abilities. If you want to get extended information, for example, to know the coefficient of verbal intelligence, you will have to pass a special test. But the testing of Amthauer already includes a unit for the development of verbal intelligence, along with questions that help determine the overall level of development of IQ, the level of non-verbal intelligence, as well as the person's predisposition to a particular activity. Because of the last point, this test is often used to find out the closest professional sphere to a person.

Whose pen belongs to the bulk of IQ tests that can be found on the Internet is unknown. It is clear only that they are not compiled by professionals and can not give an accurate description. Often, the results of testing there are overstated.

The tests for determining IQ are designed in such a way that the results have a normal distribution. So, the average value of the intelligence factor should be 100 points, that is, about 50% of the population will receive about the same number of points for testing. If less than 70 points are scored, then this may indicate mental retardation.

Coefficient of emotional intelligence

Tests to determine the coefficient of intelligence traditionally cause a great reaction in society, their widespread use is not approved by all. Many even claim that tests for IQ can only determine the standard of thinking, but not the level of mental abilities. And after recent research, specialists from the University of Western Ontario said that the IQ test can only determine your ability to solve such tests. This is confirmed by the fact that people with high IQs do not always make a successful career, but the owners of the average level of intelligence often become leading experts.

Having learned this feature, scientists came to the conclusion that there is also emotional intelligence that allows generating emotions that will not only help the thinking process, but will also allow establishing better contact with people. By and large, EQ (Emotional Intelligence) is common sense.

But it should be noted that EQ is not an absolute indicator of success, but only a concept that allows to expand the concept of intelligence even more.
