How to sew a cover on a sofa?

Upholstery of upholstered furniture from constant contact with the clothes of people and other items is wiped. In this case, nothing will help, except how to sew a cover on the sofa. This will also prevent it from contaminating food and drink.

In this article, you will learn two ways of sewing covers on a sofa, differing in that one option is for upholstered furniture made from pillows, and the second is for one-piece.

Master-class: how to sew a cover on a sofa

It will take:

• dense white fabric (cotton);
• lightning;
• sewing accessories: sewing machine, thread, a lot of pins.

Our sofa consists of a frame and individual pillows, so we will sew covers for each part separately.

Sew a pillowcase on the pillow

It consists of:

• 2 rectangles (its bottom and top);
• long strip (sidewall);
• lightning.

1. We cut out the details of our pillows. To the zipper on both sides of the links sew white fabric so that its overall width becomes equal to the height of the pillow. Take a long strip and twist it on one side twice by 2.5 cm. Apply the zipper to the received bend as shown in the photo.
2. We fix the end of the lightning with a pin, and then we spend it.
3. We take the part that will be the bottom, and to its front side we pinned the zipper, also the front one. We do so on the entire circumference.
4. Before sewing the second end of the flank to the zipper, we do the same as in the beginning (points 2 and 3).
5. Superfluous cut off. On top, attach the second large part and sew. We have turned out a pillowcase, turned on the wrong side, so we turn it on the front side.

Dress all six pillows of our sofa in this way.

We sew a cover on a skeleton of a sofa

All the details for our sofa look like this:

To sew them, you must first cut them out of the fabric and, laying the front side to the furniture, chipping them out, retreat from the edge of 1-1.5 cm:

sides, back, sleeper.

Bottom is usually a skirt that covers the legs of the couch and the empty space below it.

For this:

1. We cut out several stripes with a width of 15 cm. The length of each depends on the detail of the sofa it will be placed under. Also we make 3 short details of 15 cm. We process them on both sides.
2. We connect long strips with the help of these small details, sewing their ends up to half and not squaring them in height.
3. Sew them along the length to the basic details.

Master-class: we make a cover on the one-piece sofa

It will take

:

• lightweight fabric;
• dense fabric;
• ties;
• wooden sticks.

To determine how much you will need lining fabric, you need to measure the sofa in length and width for the product itself from floor to floor and add another 10-15 cm.

The more dense fabric is cut out:

• rectangle, the width of which is equal to the size of the sofa from floor to floor in width and length of the berth;
• 2 capes on the sides, the width of which is equal to their width and length from bed to floor.

All the details are sewn together. We begin to "dress" the sofa.

1. We throw on our furniture "drapery", that is, the lower layer. It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the tissue is distributed evenly. We put the top layer on top.
2. In order to preserve the location of the tissues, it is necessary to put wooden sticks in the bend of the berth and along the sides. For beauty folds on the front side of the rims can be fixed in several ways.

To sew a cover it is possible on a sofa of any kind: angular, the book, classical, a clamshell, etc. To do this, you only need a sewing machine, a large amount of dense fabric and patience, as this is a long and time consuming process.
