Prices for aquariums , especially large dimensions, can be very high. However, if you put a little effort and patience, and also have the necessary tools, a simple aquarium of square or rectangular shape can be made independently. We will tell you how to make an aquarium at home.
Necessary materials
In order to make the aquarium by our own hands it was possible, we will need:
- Glass. Suitable window glass, which is sold in construction markets and workshops. Its thickness (in mm) is determined depending on the height and length of the proposed aquarium. In the workshop where you buy the glass, you need to ask to cut it into pieces of suitable size or you can do it yourself.
- Silicone adhesive.
- File.
- Insulating tape or tape.
How to make an aquarium at home?
According to this algorithm, you can make even large enough capacity, for example, to assemble an aquarium of 100 liters by your own hands.
- Using the file, we grind the edges of the glass so that they become smooth. This will increase adhesion to the adhesive, and also protect you from cuts with sharp edges of the glass.
- We spread on the table or floor of the aquarium part as they should be fastened with glue, we apply adhesive tape to the edges. Degrease the face with alcohol or acetone.
- We put on the edge of silicone glue. The thickness of the adhesive layer should be approximately 3 mm.
- We collect the aquarium and fasten the walls with an insulating tape. At the same time, it is necessary to slightly press the walls against each other and tap on them, so that all the air bubbles come out of the silicone.
- Once again blot all the edges with silicone adhesive and let it dry. Typically, the drying time according to the instructions is from 24 to 48 hours, but it is better to give the aquarium a more long time to settle without water.
- A week later, you can remove the insulation tape and check the strength of the gluing. Then you can pour water into the aquarium.
