Hemorrhage in the eye - causes

Hemorrhage in the eye occurs when the walls of its vessels are damaged. This can occur due to mechanical effects or the development of pathology in the vessels.

Symptoms of hemorrhage in the eye

Hemorrhage in the eye becomes evident almost immediately after damage to the vessel - some of the protein becomes bright red. However, doctors distinguish between types of hemorrhage, depending on what it was caused, and in what part of the eye blood got.

  1. Hyphema. A hyphema is a hemorrhage in which blood enters the anterior chamber of the eye. In this case, a uniform red spot with smooth contours is observed in the eye. The anterior chamber of the eye is completely filled with blood, and when it occupies a vertical position, it settles in the lower part. At the same time, vision does not decrease. Hyphema is characterized by the fact that it quickly disappears - within 5-7 days the eye acquires its former form.
  2. Hemophthalmus. If the hemorrhage occurs in the vitreous, hemophthalmia develops. It occurs if the walls of the vessels are damaged, and therefore a dense red spot is characteristic for it. Such a hemorrhage can reduce vision right up to blindness. In front of the eyes, patients can observe partial vision impairment - white spot outbreaks or black dots. This is a serious eye injury, and therefore, with gemophthalmia urgent medical attention is needed. From the speed of the reaction of physicians and proper treatment, vision can be preserved. If you do not help, in the future the eyeball can atrophy, and the retina exfoliate.
  3. Hemorrhage in the retina. The signs of such a hemorrhage depend on how damaged this part of the eye is. Often, patients have small light points in front of their eyes, and objects are seen with blurred contours. If such a hemorrhage is often repeated, it can lead to loss of vision.

Causes of hemorrhage in the eye

Causes, why there is a hemorrhage in the eye, there may be many. This can be as an internal pathology of blood vessels, increased intraocular pressure, and mechanical damage from the outside.

Hemorrhage in the eye after a stroke

Most often, with a strong blow, burst blood vessels cause a hemorrhage into the cornea of the eye. This leads to impaired vision and pain. The impact pressure also often causes a bleeding in the sclera of the eye.

Hemorrhage in the eye after surgery

Sometimes after surgery, bruising can occur in the eye, which are normal reactions of the body. Gradually they pass by themselves.

Internal eye hemorrhage due to high blood pressure

If the examination of the fundus shows that the pressure inside is increased, then in the absence of treatment, it can further cause the rupture of the vessel walls, and this will lead to internal hemorrhage.

Hemorrhage in the eye due to diabetes mellitus

In medicine there is such a thing as retinopathy - this pathology is accompanied by diabetes, and in the future it leads to damage to the walls of the vessels.

Hemorrhage in the eye due to a tumor

Oncological education can exert pressure on the eye, and this causes periodic hemorrhages.

Hemorrhage in the eye due to physical activity

Physical exertion, attempts and even a strong cough or cry can cause a bleeding in the eye.

Treatment of hemorrhage in the eye

Treatment of hemorrhage in the eye depends on the reasons that caused it.

For example, with hyphema, the treatment of hemorrhage is not required - it will go away after a while (usually, recovery does not take more than a week). Sometimes iodide drops are used to accelerate the recovery. Bury the agent 3 times a day.

If the symptoms do not go away within two weeks, then you can talk about the presence of complications. Often in the risk group, older people, whose regeneration processes are slowed down.

With extensive hemorrhage, the patient needs medical care and hospitalization. In the opposite case, vision may be lost.
