Nature and attractions

The island flora is poor, beautiful bushes or unusual flowers can not be found here, but the animal world is rich. Floreana is the only place in the Galapagos where you can see pink flamingos. They are not only living here, but lay eggs and bring out chicks. Giant green sea turtles go ashore in the Punta Cormorant cape to lay eggs. Lizard Microlophus grayi (lava) - Galapagos endemic, found in Florean and 4 nearby islands.

In addition to pink flamingos, you can watch ducks-pinters, flycatchers, terns, marshweeds, pelicans and yellow singing birds. Hawaiian typhoon - a bird that spent most of its life away from the shore, chose Floreana to be its place of nesting.

Among the sights, which is an excursion route, it is worth highlighting:

  1. Crown of the Devil . This is the best and best place for diving in the Galapagos. Here is the cone of an extinct volcano. Most of it is under water, only a half-ruined top protrudes from above. On the slopes there are many coral thickets.
  2. Cape Punta Cormorant. Most animals and birds live here.
  3. A tiny town-port of Puerto Velasco Ibarra. There are several shops, restaurants, a hotel and a hotel.
  4. Post Office Bay or postal bay. At Floreana, the first post office in the Galápagos was organized. They were big barrels where they threw letters. Then they were taken out by those who went to the mainland. From those old barrels left no trace, there are new, where tourists throw letters, and they take a couple to drop them into the nearest mailbox on the big earth.

The island Floreana, despite the unfriendliness of local residents, worthy at least one-time visit. In addition to land animals and birds, you can watch dolphins here - on a yacht from Santa Cruz to Florea and back.
