Albumin in the blood is a protein fraction that makes up more than 60% of the blood plasma. Protein albumin is constantly synthesized in the liver and its purpose is:
- in maintaining the oncotic pressure - a tension that does not allow the blood components to stick together and settle;
- in the movement of blood and the transport of substances necessary for the normal functioning of the organism;
- in the creation of a reserve of amino acids, which can potentially be consumed during prolonged starvation.
The norm of albumin in the blood
The level of albumin in the serum depends on the person's age:
- in newborns and children under 1 year the norm is 47 - 73 g / l of blood:
- in children from 1 year to 15 years - 52-76 g / l;
- in adolescents and adults - 64-83 g / ml.
After 60 years, the norm of this type of protein in the blood decreases slightly.
Blood test for albumin
The doctor appoints the patient to donate blood to albumin in order to clarify the state of the organism of the latter. Like any biochemical test, the blood test for albumin is given from the vein, on an empty stomach. In critical days, the composition of blood in women changes, so experts recommend in this case to postpone the analysis for a later period.
Albumin in the blood is elevated
A common cause of increased albumin is dehydration of the body as a result of diarrhea, persistent vomiting. Also albumin in the blood can be increased for the following reasons:
- traumatic lesions (accidents, extensive burns, frostbite , etc.);
- severe autoimmune diseases (lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis);
- liver disease (cirrhosis, hepatitis);
- diabetes;
- nephritis;
- Some infectious diseases (eg, cholera).
Albumin in the blood is lowered
Lowering the level of albumin in the blood also indicates the pathological processes taking place in the body. Low
- liver disease ( cirrhosis , hepatitis, atrophy, cancinoma);
- kidney disease;
- cardiovascular pathologies;
- oncology;
- inflammatory processes associated with suppuration.
The lowering of the albumin level in women during pregnancy and lactation is considered to be the norm.
In order to achieve a normal content of the protein fraction, injections of the drug or droppers with pharmaceutical albumin are prescribed. Natural albumin contains hematogen (liquid or in the form of sweet bars).
