When decorating the appearance of buildings, paint is often used. It allows the facade of the house to look clean and fresh for many years. But to choose such a paint for carrying out outdoor work in today's conditions of the widest range is not so easy. Let's find out what facade paints are and what to consider when buying.
Types of facade paints for outdoor use
All decorative facade paints for outdoor works are divided into several varieties. Depending on the type of solvent they are water-soluble and on organic solvents. The first are more environmentally friendly than organosoluble, as toxic chemicals are often used in the latter. But at the same time they are less weather resistant, and toxicity in outdoor work is not the most important characteristic.
Water-soluble paints include so-called water-emulsion (water-dispersed or latex) facade paints for outdoor works - they are made on the basis of polymers - and mineral ones that have in their composition inorganic binders - lime, liquid glass or cement. Also in this category there are other types of paints:
- silicone - has water-repellent properties;
- Vinyl is one of the most inexpensive;
- acrylic exterior paint for exterior works - waterproof and vapor permeable.
Facade water-soluble paints can be used for exterior work on brick, concrete and even metal.
As for mineral paints, they are calcareous, silicate and cement. They are inexpensive, reliable, weatherproof. But they are rarely used today, mainly due to the fact that their application requires special skill - usually such work is entrusted to specialists. Before buying, be sure to ask which of the colors you like is suitable for your facade . Usually such information is indicated on the containers with paint. And, of course, colors come in a variety of shades. Some companies sell exclusively white paint, where you can add a color pigment from the palette of the same or any other manufacturer. Today computer tingling is popular. Others sell already mixed colors in a particular color.
Features of the choice of facade paint
Some requirements are imposed on the facade paint. Stick to them to choose a really good and quality product. So, the paint should:
- be thick, but stirring becomes liquid enough;
- be a homogeneous consistency, without lumps (otherwise it indicates inappropriate storage conditions);
- do not burn, even it is dark;
- allow easy cleaning of walls in case of contamination.
If your house is located close to the roadway, choose a paint with hydrophobic, dirt-repellent properties. Dust and pollution from the facade, painted with such a paint, are easily washed away by rain.
Be sure to adhere to the surface preparation rules, which are specified in the instructions. Some types of paints can be applied to the facade, covered with old paint, others - only on a specially prepared and primed surface.
And one more tip - do not buy the cheapest paint. Obviously, such a product is unlikely to be of high quality. Cheap paint from unscrupulous manufacturers can quickly fade, and then re-paint will have to produce for 2-3 years.
Before you stop on this or that product, calculate how many buckets of paint you need, taking into account the total area of the facade and the required number of layers of paint. It is better to take a little more than you need, since it is unlikely that you will find or mix identical colors.
