Extirpation of the uterus - a gynecological operation performed by the removal of the uterus in conjunction with the neck. Indications for the operation of extirpation:
- detection of malignant neoplasm of the uterus, cervix, appendages;
- uterine myoma;
- endometriosis;
- omission (prolapse) of the uterus ;
- prolonged uterine bleeding with large blood loss and lack of results of conservative treatment;
- extensive uterine trauma with perforation of walls or ruptures;
- sex change (operation of surgical correction of sex).
What are the types of surgery for extirpation of the uterus?
The operations are divided by the volume of the operative intervention:
- removal of the entire uterus, including the cervix (extirpation);
- removal of appendages with the uterus (pangysterectomy);
- Extended extirpation of the uterus with appendages (extraction together with organs of regional lymph nodes and cellulose).
Subdivided and surgical access for the operation:
- penetration through the anterior abdominal wall (laparotomy for extirpation of the uterus with appendages);
- vaginal access for extirpation of the uterus and appendages;
- Laparoscopic access in case of extirpation of the uterus in conjunction with the appendages.
The scope of surgical intervention, the type of access and the urgency of the operation are determined individually in each case. Contraindications to surgery are not taken into account when performing an intervention in order to immediately save a patient's life.
Planned same operations are conducted only after comprehensive preparation of the patient and verification of her general condition. It is obligatory to conduct all general clinical tests, colposcopy , material research on cytology, biopsy samples.
Effects of surgical intervention
Extirpation of the uterus, especially with simultaneous bilateral removal of the appendages, has noticeable consequences. On the traumatic effect of organ loss, the hormonal regulation of the organism is altered due to the removal of the female genital glands.
