Early pregnancy test

There are many ways to determine pregnancy, which are based on a clinical examination (survey, gynecological examination), laboratory (increase in blood chorionic gonadotropin) and instrumental (ultrasound). The pregnancy test is designed for early diagnosis, and is based on sensitivity to increased chorionic gonadotropin in the urine. It is very convenient to use, and is successfully used both at home and in hospitals. When is pregnancy determined by the test and what determines the result of the pregnancy test?

How much does the test show pregnancy?

Let's see what are the tests for pregnancy. The most simple and cheap are paper test strips, they are able to determine pregnancy if the level of HCG in the blood is not below 25 mIU. The second on reliability are test-cassettes, they determine pregnancy at the level of chorionic gonadotropin in the blood from 15 to 25 mIU.

Inkjet tests to date are the most reliable tests for determining pregnancy. Many women who dream of the onset of a long-awaited pregnancy are interested in: when to conduct a pregnancy test (on what day). Of course, more reliable test results will be obtained after the onset of the delay (week 4 of pregnancy), when the level of chorionic gonadotropin (in-hCG) has reached such a high level in the blood that its level in the urine will be sufficient to determine by test.

So, the results of the pregnancy test depend on a number of factors: the sensitivity of the test, the quality of the test, and on how much the woman adhered to the instructions during the test. So, supersensitive pregnancy tests are considered to be jet tests, they are able to determine pregnancy even at a concentration of chorionic gonadotropin in urine of 10 mIU. Such tests can confirm the pregnancy even before the delay in menstruation.

How fast will the test show pregnancy?

About how long two stripes can appear on the test, you can find it in the instructions. If a woman decides to use one of the most inexpensive tests (a test strip), then in order to perform it, you need to collect the morning urine in a clean container (it contains the highest level of chorionic gonadotropin during the day). The test strip should be lowered into the container, so that the part with the indicator is covered with a liquid.

The result is evaluated no later than 5 minutes after contact with the urine test. The presence of 2 bands on the test speaks in favor of pregnancy. If there is no clear staining of the second band on the test, then such a result is considered doubtful. In this case, the pregnancy test should be repeated, while using more sensitive tests (test cassette or inkjet).

In case of a second doubtful result, you should consult a doctor and be examined to exclude an ectopic pregnancy. I would also like to note that if the monthly test is delayed , an ectopic pregnancy test may be negative. This is because the growth of chorionic gonadotropin in the blood with ectopic pregnancy will occur much more slowly than in normal, and consequently, the concentration of hCG in urine will be low.

Having examined the peculiarities of pregnancy diagnosis using home tests, it should be said that one should not take their result as 100%. Normal pregnancy should be confirmed with gynecological and ultrasound examination.
