In the 40s of the last century antibiotics were not used in medicine. With infections of the ears, nose and throat, doctors often attributed protargol - a drug with a modest composition based on ions of silver and water. Many years have passed since then, and doctors, even with the possibility of using antibiotics, still apply this medicine in practice.
However, this is indignant in some people, because silver is a heavy metal, and accumulating in the body, becomes a dangerous toxic substance. This opinion does not stop doctors in prescribing medicines not only for adults, but also for children.
Despite its toxicity to humans (with prolonged use) protargol copes successfully with the infection, suppressing the vital activity of bacteria when penetrating their DNA.
Protargol - application
A solution of protargol - a drop in the nose, which are used for various diseases. Often they are really used in rhinitis, and therefore they are automatically called "drops for the nose", however, this is not the only area of their application.
For example, protargol is used in adenoids: it is a complex disease for conservative treatment, and therefore it is often eliminated by surgery. Nevertheless, at the first stages adenoides are treated with drops, among which there is also protargol. It is a partially oxidized silver that disinfects the nasopharynx. Adenoids require long-term treatment, but protargol should not be used for long, and gradually replace this medication with more sparing.
Also protargol is used for rhinitis - chronic or acute. It removes inflammation and disinfects, but does not release breathing.
Protargol is also used for pharyngeal inflammation of the pharynx, if it is caused by bacteria, not by viruses. In viral infections, silver ions are powerless.
In more rare cases, protargol is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:
- otitis media;
- cystitis;
- urethritis ;
- conjunctivitis;
- blepharitis.
Today some doctors are focused on the use of ready-made and more modern medicines, if it is a question of specific urological or ophthalmologic diseases.
Mode of application protargola
- With diseases of the throat, nose and ears, doctors recommend burying protargol 3 drops in the morning and in the evening.
- With urological diseases, doctors recommend using a 2% solution. They are washed with affected canals.
- With infectious inflammation of the eyes, doctors recommend to instill 1% solution of 2 drops in the morning, afternoon and evening.
Information on the dosage and mode of use must be confirmed by the doctor on an individual basis in order to eliminate the risk of complications as much as possible.
Excessive use of medication can lead to severe diseases of internal organs due to deposition of silver. The world knows cases when protargol caused blueness of the face, that it is impossible to eliminate neither the abolition of the drug nor other medication.
How to store protargol?
The method for storing protargol is somewhat different from the storage of modern medicines. This is due to its formulation:
- Protargol storage conditions. After each use, the medicine bottle should be tightly closed and placed in a dark and cool place. In solution, silver ions have a non-stable compound, and therefore it quickly spoils, and when
the appearance of a cloudy, black with a metallic reflection of the sediment on the walls of the vial, the medicine must be discarded - it is not only unfit, but also harmful. - Shelf life of protargol. Protargol has a short shelf life. As a rule, it is indicated on the packaging, and often the duration is 10-20 days. Along with this, there is an opinion that protargol ceases to be effective on the 5th day, and therefore, whenever possible, it is better to order a new solution every 5 days.
