After the original building, where the gallery was located, was destroyed during the Second World War, all the pictures were hidden, and then taken to the restoration. In total, the permanent collection of the ancient gallery of the city of Dresden has over 750 paintings by artists from the Middle Ages and Renaissance (Early and High). Most of the available paintings are on restoration. Among them are the works of Rafael Santi, Titian, Rembrandt, Albrecht Durer, Velasquez, Bernardino Pinturicchio, Francesco Franca, Peter Rubens, Velasquez, Nicolas Poussin, Sandro Botticelli, Lorenzo di Credit and other famous artists.

All the paintings on the walls hang in the old darkened frames, but at the same time the gallery uses the most modern devices to create optimal conditions for storage and profitable display.

The building is divided into two zones: a gallery of paintings and exhibition halls with sculptures.

Gallery of New Masters

There are exhibited no less popular artists of Europe, who created in the 19 and 20 centuries. Altogether there are about 2500 works, of which only 300 are exhibited.

Among the exhibited artists the most popular is the German romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich Gerhard Richter. In the same direction worked Carl Gustav Carus, Ludwig Richter and Johan Christian Dahl.

From the impressionists in the halls of this gallery are Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Max Lieberman, Eduard Manet, Max Slefogt. In addition, there are works of Otto Dix (expressionist), Karl Lohse, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and George Baselitz.

Sculpture Collection

On the ground floor there are statues created from the ancient times to the 21st century. Here is the most complete collection of works by Auguste Rodin. Among the sculptures of other authors it is possible to single out the "Ballerina" by Edgar Degas and "The Bowed Knee" by Wilhelm Lembroke.

In addition to paintings and statues, this museum has an interesting collection of coins, seals, prints and other very interesting exhibits of the world cultural heritage.
