How to care for dracaena?
How correctly to water the dracaena? The plant is fond of moisture and water, but not waterlogging. In the summer it is necessary to water the dracen daily, and in winter it is enough three times a week. It is also important to spray the dracaena. From time to time arrange for the plant a warm shower to wash away the dust and saturate the leaves with moisture. It is very important not to allow stagnant water in the pot: the roots will begin to rot, and the leaves will cover with black spots and fall off.
Top dressing for dracaena. Caring for dracaena means its constant top dressing in the period from April to August. This is a period of active growth, when fertilizing the plant is necessary every two weeks. In the shops special fertilizers are sold for green houseplants. Proper and timely feeding for dracaena - a pledge of good growth.
Temperature for dracaena. At home, dracenium must be kept at a temperature of at least 15 ° C. Otherwise, the plant begins to slow down growth, and eventually may die. Do not place the pot with dracaena in a draft. On the windowsill, periodically turn the pot so that the leaves can grow evenly.
Transplantation of the room dracaena. Transplant dracenu enough every two years. Do this in the spring. In the pot, a large layer of drainage is made to prevent stagnation of moisture and rotting of the roots. Ideal for dracaena is a mixture of leafy land, overgrown manure and greenhouse land. If the plant begins to die and to save the roots is not possible, you can try to keep it vegetative reproduction.
Diseases and pests
Even the most careful care of the dracaena will not save you from possible diseases. What can you find on the leaves of the plant?
- brown edges and tips of leaves (burns) indicate drafts. Perhaps you do not water often or spray the plant a little;
- dry spots on the leaves are sunburn;
- yellow and fall off the lower leaves, this is a completely natural process, so the plant gets rid of the old leaves;
- the leaves should be bright and brightly colored, but in reality they are monophonic - this is a lack of sunlight;
- the upper side of the leaves is covered with yellow spots, and between the leaves a small spider web is visible - it is a spider mite. And the presence of brown plaques on the underside of the leaf indicates the appearance of a scab. These pests are afraid of insecticide treatment.
