Dichondra - a silver waterfall

An incredibly beautiful ampulla dichondra, the silver threads of which branches fall from a pot with a waterfall, is a novelty of floriculture. Most florists first heard about the existence of this ornamental foliage of the family of the Viukovs after the silver dichondra was awarded at the exhibition of the international format "Flowers 2004" of the silver medal.

General information

Today there are a little more than a dozen species of dichondra. Her homeland is the territory of America, Australia and East Asia. Thanks to the unpretentiousness of this ampelnaya plant and its stunning appearance, the dichondra are often used by phyto-designers. This is not surprising, because the silvery waterfall of the thin dichondry lashes can reach a length of about six meters! Scurs, covered with small silvery or bright green leaves, decorate any summer garden or house, but the flowers of the dichondra of interest because of their miniature size and pallor do not represent.

If the landing of the dichondra is carried out in the ground, and not in a hanging pot or basket, its branches in a rather short period will cover the site with a soft green carpet. Even if the plant is planted in a pendant tank, its whips, reaching the ground, are able to take root. In such a simple way, you can get a beautiful ground cover plant.

If you do not know how to decorate the ground in the garden, where trees grow, the cultivation of the dichondra "Silver Waterfall" is the best choice, because the plant feels well in the shade and penumbra. As for growing a plant as a room, it is necessary to stop the choice on the variety "Silver Waterfall" or "Emerald Waterfall".

Care of the dichondroma

As already mentioned, dichondra can be grown both at home and outdoors. It can grow in the sun, in the shade, and in the penumbra. The more light a plant receives, the smaller its leaves. As for the temperature regime, the optimum varies between 18-25 degrees. If the temperature drops below +10, the plant begins to wilt.

Requirements for watering, too, can not be called tough. Watering the plant should be no more than two or three times in the dry period. By the way, short-term drying of the soil does not pose any danger. But the stagnant water for the root system is fatal, so good drainage is required. The most undesirable condition for a dichondra is a cool temperature and waterlogging. It is not necessary to fertilize a dichondra, but pruning is a must. It is needed to form a dense crown.

It is impossible to keep the dichondra in winter on the open ground, since the plant is annual. However, there is a way out. If you move it to the house, cut off all the hanging whips, then in the spring it will again be ready for planting in the ground.

Reproduction

Cultivation of an ampal dichondra is possible both from seeds and stem cuttings. If you purchased seeds, then the dichondrone should be sown at the end of January in a container with a moistened substrate. Cover it with a film or glass, keep the temperature within 22-24 degrees and spray every three days. In a week wait for the first shoots of green color. After three months, the dichondra will surprise you with its decorative features.

It is easier to propagate annuals with cuttings. During the next pruning of the mother plant, save a part of the branches, lay them in the greenhouse on the ground, press it in several places. When the rootlets appear, you can divide the branch into cuttings and plant them in the ground.

As you can see, dichondra is an undemanding and extremely beautiful ampel plant, which can decorate both the house and the plot.
