The diamond turtledove is one of the most beautiful and graceful house birds. From her little noise and she perfectly gets along with the various singing birds. Gorlitsa is not afraid of man, therefore these birds are kept at home.

A diamond turtledove is a small representative of a pigeon squad. The length of the bird is about 20 centimeters. Almost half the length is on the tail. The weight of the bird is about 40 grams. But these representatives of the pigeon squad live in flocks.

Kinds of turtle-doves

The turtledove family includes 18 species. The habitat of these birds is wide. Among the most common representatives of the genus, one can notice a turtledove. This bird is like a dove, but a little smaller in size, with mottled plumage.

An interesting representative is the Egyptian turtledove. It is also called a "laughing pigeon". Such a strange name she received because of her voice, which resembles laughter.

Ringed turtledove - a bird on the neck of which is a white semicircle, which is a sign of maturity. Young turtledoves do not have such marks on plumage.

Still there are Chinese, African turtledoves. They are easy to distinguish, since each species has its own peculiarity in the color of plumage.

The maintenance of a diamond turtledove

The diamond turtledove is practically a domesticated species. With good nutrition and content, they become tame. As a feed for them use a mixture that consists of yellow and red millet, canary seed, crushed corn, weed seeds, rapeseed and flaxseed. For a day, two teaspoons are enough. It is strongly recommended to give the birds greens.

The cage should not be placed in drafts. In summer it is useful to arrange for them sunbathing, but it is important to prevent overheating. In winter, it is recommended to use lamps to avoid hypothermia of birds, if they are kept on the streets in enclosures.

Turtle-doves are birds that need to be kept in pairs, as they need communication and contact.
