Depth of planting garlic for the winter

In the list of autumn garden works, there is certainly a landing of garlic for the winter , but it is important to know the depth to which it should be planted so that it does not die out. Experienced truck farmers make everything unmistakable, but beginners ignorance can be worth the crop.

Fine or deep?

The depth of the planting of garlic in autumn should be small. After all, a plant for a good wintering will be enough for rooting. It is normal to seal the lobules into the ground for 5-10 cm, and the maximum allowable depth is 15 cm. For landing, shallow shallow grooves are dug to the bottom of which, at a distance of 15 cm, the garlic cloves are laid with roots down.

It is very important not to press them too firmly into the ground, so as not to damage the roots. Or you can make a separate hole for each tooth with a stick of the required length. Both ways have their followers.

The depth of planting of winter garlic will be different for different regions. So, in a country with a harsh climate, the landing should be carried out in the beginning and the middle of September, but in the south of the work it can be postponed until November.

Planting time

Not only the correctly chosen depth of planting garlic for winter is important. An important factor is the time when these garden works are carried out. Garlic before the onset of frost should be well rooted, and then no winter to him is not terrible. It should not be forgotten that the teeth are best anchored in wet soil, and therefore should be planted after rain or pre-irrigation.

Planting teeth should be 3-4 weeks before the expected cold. This time will be enough. But if you missed the landing time, then out of this situation there is a way out - will save the landing of garlic to a depth of 20 cm. And although such a deep planting can affect the amount of harvest, it will not allow the teeth to freeze in the winter.

Some tricks

Not everyone knows that planting garlic for two consecutive years on one and the same place is inadmissible - the harvest will be meager. But after the onion to sow winter garlic - just a great idea.

The requirements of garlic to the soil are similar to other plants - it likes neutral fertile land, but that's what it does not like, so it's fresh cow dung that unnecessarily acidifies the soil and contains nitrogen. Winter garlic is better planted in the lungs of soil with a high content of sand, so that the meltwater does not stagnate and the crop is not vyprel.

To prevent garlic from getting sick, before the planting, the denticles are soaked in medium-intensity manganese solution. After the denticles are planted, the area should be confused with sawdust or humus.
