Luxembourg is a dwarfish state in Western Europe, attracting tourists with its richest history and memorable places. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is one of the main attractions not only of the capital , but of the entire duchy.

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Luxembourg is unique in its kind, as it is the only Orthodox church that is part of the Western European Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

A bit of history

The history of the construction of the temple is interesting and unusual. At the beginning of the 20th century, Russia was at the center of a fratricidal civil war. Against the Bolsheviks are fighting whiteguards, one of whom was Roman Pooh. The results of that war are well known to everyone and our hero was forced to emigrate to Bulgaria. Six years later, in the family of Roman Filippovich and his wife, Sergei's son is born, who was destined to become a clergyman and rector of the church in the name of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. Unusual love for Russia and an unshakable faith in God was always experienced by Sergei Romanovich, despite the fact that he lived far from his homeland.

In 1973, Sergei fell seriously ill - it was during this period that he vowed to rebuild the church and become a clergyman, if God helps him heal. By the will of fate, the sick man was healed and was soon elevated to the rank of deacon. A year after the illness, Sergei was ordained a priest. The collection of funds for the construction of the temple begins. Part of the investment was received by Father Sergius from selling his own house, the rest of the sum was donated by his compatriots. The authorities of Luxembourg for a week speculated on whether to allocate land for the construction of the church or not, after a while, a positive response was received.

The case brought Sergei with the famous architect Marco Shollo, who decided to prepare a project for the construction of the temple. Meanwhile, the money came from believers from different corners.

The opening of the temple

The temple was laid May 20, 1979. Archbishop Anthony consecrated the first brick, on which is inscribed an inscription telling about Saint Peter and Paul. In the place of the future throne, various Christian shrines from different parts of the earth were left. Construction began, lasting 5 years. And so, in 1982 the church was erected, consecrated and inaugurated.

Father Sergius devoted his life to the service of God. The temple built by him in Luxembourg became the center of the Orthodox faith abroad. Every year more and more believers from all over the world try to visit the church. The temple is especially significant for those who are far away from the Motherland.
