Chaenomeles - planting and care

Chanomeles, or Japanese quince, is a heat-loving plant native to Japan, which blooms beautifully, and also yields very useful fruits. Chaenomeles will develop well in regions with a mild warm climate. In a terrain with lower temperatures, the bush will bloom less. The rules of planting and caring for chanomeles will be discussed in this article.

Choose a place for planting

Chanomeles is very fond of sunshine, so it's better to choose an illuminated place for planting. The plant will develop well on light fertile soil, it's a little worse to choose a site with peatland for planting. If you plant Japanese quince in alkaline soil, then it can provoke a leaf disease. Thus, the ideal site for the landing of the chaenomelis will be a wind protected area on the south side.

Planting chaenomeles

Planting and caring for chanomeles (Japanese quince) requires compliance with certain rules. So, for example, planting plants on a permanent place is best in the early spring. Autumn planting is also considered possible, but the probability that the bush will get much lower. In a pit with a depth and diameter of about half a meter, prepared for planting, it is necessary to lay out 2 buckets of humus with supplements of superphosphate, potassium nitrate or wood ash.

The root system of chanomeles is very sensitive, so the plant does not tolerate transplants. Choosing a place for planting a plant, you should not subsequently re-plant it. The bush of Japanese quince can successfully grow and develop in one place for more than half a century.

How to care for henomeles?

Proper care and cultivation of chanomeles means regular loosening of the soil around the bush, especially in the summer, and weeding from weeds. In the first year after landing in the open ground it is better not to use any top dressing for Japanese quince, because fertilizers can burn the fragile roots of the plant. In the following years, in early spring, the shrub should be fertilized with mineral fertilizing and organic. If in winter in your region the air temperature drops much below zero, then for wintering the bush should be covered with leaves or lapnika.

Reproduction of Chaenomeles

One of the most effective ways of reproduction is planting seeds. Planting and caring for chaenomeles is easily carried out at home. In addition, the plant can be propagated by cuttings or root offspring, but such methods give worse results.

Crop Chaenomeles

Japanese quince very well tolerates pruning and haircut, but because of the presence of thorns it is not very convenient. Therefore, you need to buy long garden gloves for work. Obligatory pruning of the chaenomelis must be done every spring, removing the dried and damaged shoots.
