Cherry "Valery Chkalov"

One of them is the cherry of the variety "Valery Chkalov", which for a long time has grown fond of gardening thanks to its tremendously fresh taste. The specified grade was published in the All-Russian Research Institute of Selection and Genetics of Fruit Plants and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Irrigated Horticulture from seedlings of the Caucasian pink variety as a result of free pollination in 1974.

Variety description

Description of the cherry variety "Valery Chkalov" should start with the fact that the tree "Valeriya" grows to five or six meters, and its crown is well lined, has an average density and spreading. The thickness of the stem is large, covered with a rough bark of a gray-brown color. Leaves can be broadly oval or obovate, their edges serrate. The fruits of this variety are large enough. The weight of one can reach eight grams. They have a wide-heart shaped shape, the apex slightly dulled. The color of the fruit can be dark red or black and red, and the juice has an intense rich red color. The cherry "Valery Chkalov" fell in love with her rich taste. The flesh of the fruit is very juicy, dark red, with thin veins. This variety refers to dessert, but the fruits are subject to conservation .

With regard to the resistance to frost, the cherry "Valery Chkalov" is distinguished by increased winter and frost resistance. Trees normally tolerate freezing up to -20 degrees. Even at -24 degrees, about 30% of the flower buds remain intact. Yield is also pleasing. In southern regions, the average productivity from one tree, which is 10-15 years, is 62 kilograms, and in the northern - up to 32 kilograms.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The obvious advantage of the cherry variety "Valery Chkalov" is the impeccable taste of the fruit. In addition, the harvest you will get earlier than from trees of a different kind. The fruits are large, well-transported, suitable for fresh consumption and for canning. Bone separates easily.

But the drawbacks of this kind of cherries are available. Firstly, trees are practically defenseless against gray rot. If the disease struck a tree, it is necessary to urgently spray it, as it may die. Secondly, cherry varieties "Valery Chkalov" is often affected by coccomicosis. The disease is very easily detected. When cocciemic lesions on the leaves appear small specks of brown with red patches. Over time, they merge into large spots, the leaves begin to dry out, and then fall off. On the stems there are tubercles - these are fungus spores. To get rid of it, it is necessary immediately after flowering to process the wood with Bordeaux liquid, and in autumn to remove all the crumbling foliage, to dig the aisles and again sprinkle with a solution of copper sulfate.
