There are many varieties of blackberries, and they all have their advantages. The Blackberry "Thornfree" grade is excellent yield. What is she so fond of our gardeners, and is it worth it to plant in your garden?

The difference of this berry bush from most of the brethren is the absence of thorns. This is not an unimportant feature, because caring for the plant and harvesting is very difficult and traumatic in plants with spines. The blackberry blooms with pale pink little flowers. The plant reproduces by apical cuttings, but it has no shoots of substitution like the usual blackberry.

Bush bushes blackberry "Thornfrey" erect and reach a height of two or three meters, and therefore require support. The berries of the late ripening period, that is, the harvest, depending on climatic conditions, falls on August-September.

The berries of the blackberry variety "Thornfree" are large enough - up to 3-4 cm and weigh about 7 grams. Their taste is excellent - sweet, pleasant, with a little perceptible slight sourness. But if the bush grows in the shade, it is possible that the berry will be acidic and watery. Therefore, it is recommended to grow this blackberry only on sunny areas (ideally also protected from the wind).

Care for the blackberry

The plant is best suited if planted in the spring. When autumn planting, if the stalk is not well established, and frosts begin, the young bush is unable to survive the winter. By the way, about the wintering - even if it is known about the grade "Thornfree" that it can tolerate frosts to -20 ° C, this does not mean that the plant will survive the winter without shelter.

In order to blackberry shrubs are not frozen, for them they build huts made of boards or old slate and wrap up with all kinds of improvised means. But it's important not to miss the time of the thaw and remove everything in time, so that during the first thaws the blackberries do not vyprel.

Even without intensive care, the plant will bear fruit well, but without correct pruning, the berry will melt. To keep the blackberry large, the bush is necessary on time (preferably before the beginning in the spring), cut off about a third of the whip. The bush itself should be formed from three main lobes, from which run lateral shoots.

The distance between bushes at mass dilution should be at least one and a half meters. The plant needs a solid stationary support up to 2 - 2.5 meters in height.

In early spring, blackberries are fed with humus, compost, ash and mulch the soil, in order to avoid overheating of the roots in the summer. Watering the bush is necessary abundant, but not frequent - it is enough to pour 20 liters of water under one bush once a week.
