Description of the pond
The name Black Lake belongs to a body of natural origin in the Czech Republic, by the way, the deepest and deepest in the country. It is territorially located on the ridge of Šumava , dividing the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria . Administratively it is the territory of the Plze края region about 6 km north-west of the small town of Жеelezná Ruda near the village Špičak.
It is believed that the Black Lake formed in the last glacial epoch in Europe. According to the type of food it is glacial. On the surface of the reservoir is the watershed. The average depth of the Black Lake is about 15 m, the maximum depth is 40.6 m. Its dimensions are 530 by 350 m.
What is interesting about the Black Lake?
There is a pumped storage power station on it, the oldest in the Czech Republic of this kind. The years of its construction are 192-1930. The height of Lake Šumava is used as the upper vessel.
Black Lake has its own political history. In its waters, officers of the Czechoslovak State Security and the KGB of the USSR conducted a planned operation "Neptune" in 1964. How to get to the Black Lake?
The lake mountain divides the Black and the neighboring Devil's Lake. From the village of Shpichak, a funicular lifts up the mountain every day. From the height of an excellent view, not only on the glacier pond, but also the surrounding protected areas. At the very top of the stop, from where you can go down to the lake on your own footpath.
