Black Lake

Black Lake is a very popular geographical name. It is not only a lot of reservoirs, but also recreation parks and even populated areas. The dark waters of many Black Lakes in Belarus, Russia, the Czech Republic , England are constantly confused even by experienced travelers. Description of the pond

The name Black Lake belongs to a body of natural origin in the Czech Republic, by the way, the deepest and deepest in the country. It is territorially located on the ridge of Šumava , dividing the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria . Administratively it is the territory of the Plze края region about 6 km north-west of the small town of Жеelezná Ruda near the village Špičak.

It is believed that the Black Lake formed in the last glacial epoch in Europe. According to the type of food it is glacial. The lake has an unusual triangular shape, and around grow lush coniferous forests. In the reservoir live oligotrophs - microorganisms and plants, characteristic of poor soils. The lake acquired its name because of its opaque water.

Black reservoir refers to the Elbe basin, which then flows into the North Sea. A river flows out of the lake - the Black Stream, which then flows into Ulava. On the surface of the reservoir is the watershed. The average depth of the Black Lake is about 15 m, the maximum depth is 40.6 m. Its dimensions are 530 by 350 m.

What is interesting about the Black Lake?

There is a pumped storage power station on it, the oldest in the Czech Republic of this kind. The years of its construction are 192-1930. The height of Lake Šumava is used as the upper vessel.

Black Lake has its own political history. In its waters, officers of the Czechoslovak State Security and the KGB of the USSR conducted a planned operation "Neptune" in 1964. Here, about 1 km from the border with Germany drowned, and then "accidentally" found the documentation of the Nazi security department (GUIB). In those days, tourists know where the Black Lake is located, and even more so to make photos of these places was forbidden, there could be no talk about rest.

Nowadays, all the restrictions have long been removed. Black Lake is a popular place for walks and picnics both for the local population and for visiting tourists. In the surrounding places you can ride bicycles and even on horseback, on the lake itself you can swim in kayaks. Everyone can sunbathe. But to swim under the force is not all: the water temperature even in the summer on the hottest days does not rise above +10 ° C.

How to get to the Black Lake?

The lake mountain divides the Black and the neighboring Devil's Lake. From the village of Shpichak, a funicular lifts up the mountain every day. From the height of an excellent view, not only on the glacier pond, but also the surrounding protected areas. At the very top of the stop, from where you can go down to the lake on your own footpath.
