Angioma refers to benign formations, and is a kind of birthmark. It consists of blood vessels (real angioma) or lymphatic spaces (lymphangioma), and can occur in different areas of the body.
Symptoms and types of angioma of the brain
This neoplasm has a squeezing effect, and this leads to the following symptoms:
- headache (may have different characteristics - intensity, frequency and nature);
- epileptic seizures;
- convulsions;
- dizziness;
- paralysis of different parts of the body (this depends on the location of the angioma);
- vomiting and nausea;
- violation of coordination of movement;
- noises in the head;
- speech impairment;
- a taste disorder;
- violation of thinking.
The danger of brain angiomas is that it can lead to hemorrhage.
Among the types of angioma, doctors distinguish three:
- Venous angioma of the brain is different in brown or dark blue and tends to progress autonomously. It can lead to hemorrhage ( stroke ) and is accompanied by pronounced symptoms.
- Cavernous angioma of the brain looks like a cavernous crimson formation with a pulsation, consists of small vessels and is characterized by a disturbed blood flow.
- Capillary angioma of the brain has a slow outflow of blood and consists of small capillaries.
Causes of angioma
Among the reasons for the development of angioma, doctors call the following:
- genetic;
- infectious infection;
- trauma of the brain.
Often physicians tend to the fact that in the absence of injuries, the development of angiomas is caused by the hereditary factor, while infections in very rare cases can cause neoplasm.
Treatment of angioma of the brain
Treatment of venous and other types of angiomas of the brain should be urgent, because the risk of hemorrhage and death is high. This is especially true of the venous species,
In rare cases, angiomas can resolve themselves over time, but this fact should not affect the real assessment of the circumstances in each individual case and serve as a reason for postponing the operation when it is necessary.
The operation consists in the introduction of a catheter, through which a substance is injected into the angioma, which clogs the vessels. Education can also be affected by radiation, because of which the formation decreases in size.
