Wormwood tincture

The drug is an alcoholic tincture of herb wormwood on 70% alcohol, in a concentration of 1:10, and is available in 25 ml vials. Tincture is a brownish-green liquid with a characteristic odor and a very bitter taste. Also there is a combined tincture of wormwood and peppermint, in 10 ml vials.

Properties

The drug is recommended to improve the functions of the gastrointestinal tract and increase appetite, has choleretic properties. It is indicated for hypo- and anacid gastritis, chronic cholecystitis, dyskinesia of bile ducts.

In folk medicine it is also used as a remedy for parasites, with chronic pancreatic diseases, colitis, eczema, external hemorrhages, sprains, dislocations, insect bites.

Inside tincture is taken on 20 drops 15 minutes before meals, up to 3 times a day.

Contraindications and side effects

Tincture of wormwood is contraindicated in case of individual intolerance, increased gastric secretion, hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of stomach and duodenum, acute cholecystitis, during pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects include the possibility of an allergic reaction, heartburn, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting with prolonged intake of tincture of wormwood. When an overdose of the drug is observed tremor of hands, headache, dizziness and convulsions.

Preparation of wormwood tincture

For the preparation, the herb wormwood is used, which is harvested during the flowering period, from the upper part of the plant (20-25 cm) without rigid stems. If the plant is harvested in another period, then when drying, the grass becomes dark gray, and the baskets are brown and crumble.

When using purchased raw materials it is necessary to pay attention to its quality: a properly assembled and dried plant should have a light gray, silver color. To make the tincture, the ground raw material is poured with 70% alcohol (in case of its absence, vodka can be used) in a concentration of 1:10 (for oral administration) or 1: 5 (for external use). Infuse in a dark place for at least 7 days.

Application

  1. As a means to whet the appetite. Wormwood bitterness stimulates the production of pancreatic and gastric juice, the secretion of bile. Take 15-20 drops for 15 minutes before eating.
  2. From worms a mixture of wormwood and bitter seeds of pumpkin in equal parts is used. The resulting mixture is poured into vodka in a proportion of 1: 3, and insist 10 days in the heat or sun. Take the drug for 25-50 ml, depending on the weight, twice a day, at least half an hour before meals. The course of treatment lasts a half to two weeks.
  3. For the prevention of colds, it is recommended to take 1 teaspoon of wormwood on vodka for three days.
  4. From insomnia, an oil tincture of wormwood is used, best of all - in olive oil. Add in 0.5 cups of oil 1 tablespoon of ground wormwood seeds and insist in a warm and dark place for a day. A strained mixture should be taken 3-5 drops before dropping on a piece of sugar.
  5. To treat eczema and fungal infections on the affected areas of the skin make lotions from wormwood tincture.
  6. It is used for grinding with joint pains, especially those caused by rheumatism. Especially effective treatment, if you combine rubbing with the course of taking the drug inside.
  7. In the asthenic state and anemia, tincture of wormwood is taken orally in minimal doses: 1 drop of tincture per teaspoon of water once a day, on an empty stomach. Take for two weeks, then make a two-week break and repeat the course.
