Women's Museum of Denmark


Aarhus is the cultural capital of Denmark , in the center of which there are many cultural and historical attractions, including the Danish Women's Museum (Kvindemuseet i Danmark).

About the museum

The museum occupies a building in which from 1941 to 1984 there was a police, and in the fall of 1984 the Danish Women's Museum opened its doors for the first visitors. There are a lot of exhibits: from documents and photos to complex installations and biographies of great women. Exhibits for the museum were collected bit by bit: some of them were bought from owners, some were donated by philanthropists or ordinary citizens. On the exhibits you can trace the history of the country and the role of women in this history, get to know more closely the life of Scandinavians, traditions that start in antiquity and up to the present time.

Annually the Women's Museum of Denmark is visited by more than 42 thousand tourists, and since 1991 Kvindemuseet i Danmark has received the status of a national museum. Attending the visitors are 2 permanent exhibitions - "The Life of Women from Prehistoric Times to Our Days" and "The History of Childhood of Girls and Boys", besides, there are also temporary exhibitions of different artists, photographers, etc. every year.

To get acquainted with the exhibits of the Danish Women's Museum, you can not only visit him personally, but also virtually: on the official site the museum's collections are presented, and Kvindemuseet i Danmark also conducts virtual children's excursions.

You can relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the cafe at the museum. The menu is presented only by home national dishes prepared according to old recipes.

When to visit?

Kvindemuseet i Danmark works on the following schedule: September-May - from 11.00 to 16.00, June-August - from 11.00 to 17.00 hours. The museum is located in the center of the city, you can easily reach it by foot or by rented car by coordinates. Public transportation also stops there, the stop is Kystvejen, Navitas.
