Wedding in the church: rules

Today, few couples decide to marry. There are many reasons for this, and one of the main things is trembling before the sacrament, because the wedding has, above all, spiritual significance. But because the wedding procedure is not so frequent, not everyone knows what rules of its conduct in the church, what it takes for the wedding and how it goes. Gaps in knowledge need to be filled, and therefore we deal with the basic rules of the wedding in the church together.

When is the wedding impossible?

There are rules, if not fulfilled, the wedding in the church will not take place:

  1. It is not allowed to marry more than 3 times.
  2. People who are in a close relationship (up to 4 steps) can not marry. With spiritual kinship - the kum and the godfather, the godparent and godson, the wedding is also not allowed.
  3. Wedding is impossible if the bride or groom declare themselves atheists and are going to get married for extraneous reasons.
  4. They will not marry a couple if one of them is not baptized and does not want to be baptized before the wedding or profess another faith.
  5. If one of the future spouses is married (civil or ecclesiastical). Civilian needs to be terminated, and in church marriage, it is necessary to seek permission from the bishop to dissolve and conclude a new one.
  6. The wedding is performed after the state registration of the marriage.

What do you need for a wedding in the church?

During the preparation for the wedding you need not forget about the following things:

  1. The dress for the wedding should be modest - without a deep neckline and cuts, the arms and legs are closed. Also, according to tradition, the wedding dress should have a train, it is considered, the longer the train, the happier the married life will be. And of course, the bride's outfit should be supplemented with a veil.
  2. Wedding rings, which must be given in advance to consecrate the priest. Earlier, the wedding rings were different - golden (sun) for the husband and silver (moon) for the wife. Now this tradition is not adhered to.
  3. For the newlyweds are required to cross the crosses.
  4. It will take a towel or a piece of white linen on which the newlyweds will stand.
  5. Since the wedding ceremony takes a long time, it is worth taking care of comfortable shoes.
  6. During the wedding, the bride and the groom are holding icons, they must be pre-consecrated.

What should I do before the wedding?

For sure, many are concerned with the question of how to prepare for the wedding, because it is not only the purity of the garment that is important. Today, the crowning chastity is no longer required, but before the sacrament of some things should abstain. So on the day of the wedding, starting at midnight, you should refrain from sexual intercourse, food, alcohol and smoking. In the church the young confess and receive communion, after which they change into wedding clothes.

How is the wedding ceremony?

It is, of course, impossible to fully describe the wedding ceremony, and it is not necessary - all the beauty and sacredness of the ceremony can be understood only after passing this sacrament. But some points still need to be agreed. For example, it is important to know how long the wedding takes. The time of the rite is not less than 40 minutes. This is due to the fact that both the betrothal and the wedding are now held together, whereas earlier these rites were held at different times. Therefore, you need to think not only about comfortable shoes, but also about hardy and tall best men - they have to keep crowns over the heads of the wedding.

The first is the ceremony of betrothal, at the beginning the priest gives out candles for the young, so the bride will need to either not take her bouquet to church or give it to someone else for a while. After betrothal, the future spouses go to the center of the temple, where the sacrament of the wedding takes place. Then follows the recitation of prayers, the laying of wreaths on the heads of the young. A bowl of wine is brought to the hall, which symbolizes all the ills and joys of family life, and the wine is sipped three times in small sips. The wedding ceremony ends with the passage of the spouses around the analogue and the priest's reading of the edification.
