Warts in children

What causes warts in children?

Warts in children appear due to the penetration of the virus human papillomavirus - HPV. According to statistics, approximately 10% of children have experienced warts at least once in their lives. In this case, adolescents are most at risk from the age of 9 to 16 years.

Since warts are transmitted by viruses, infection is infiltrated through minor skin lesions, scratches, minor abrasions. Especially if the person with whom the child was in contact, the surface of the wart was damaged.

Depending on the location, as well as the appearance of the warts are divided into several groups. The most common group is verruca vulgaris, affecting the hands and mucous membranes.

Plantar or plantar warts in children, verruca plantaris, are observed on the metatarsal area of the legs and heels. Typically, warts on the hands and soles appear due to the fact that children like to run barefoot, injuring the most exposed parts of the feet, or because of non-hygiene: playing with dirty objects, contact with infected children, and so on.

On the limbs, neck and face in children, warts are flat, verruca plana. They practically do not protrude above the surface of the skin and are often pigmented. Therefore, mistakes are made for freckles. Damage to a flat wart can lead to their spread and, as a result, several hundred may appear on their skin.
