Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam

Van Gogh is a unique artist. In his work there is no familiar view of academicism, and at the same time it is work that is devoid of pure naive. The transfer of mood in his canvases is so obvious that it is impossible not to get imbued. At one time the artist was not understood, and only after his death, the wife of Theo, Van Gogh's brother, made every effort to ensure that the collection of Van Gogh gained fame.

Museum named after the self-taught

Could a self-taught artist dream that his works were not just sold, but considered art objects? Could he think that after the opportunity to get his work, even for a temporary exhibition, will the museums be lined up?

Today, the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Holland is one of the most visited museums in the world. It is here that the collection of canvases, carefully preserved by John, the wife of Theo, is kept.

Named neighborhood

The Van Gogh Museum is located on one of the most famous squares in Amsterdam. The Museumplein derives its name from the fact that it is literally surrounded by custodians of values. The Royal Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, the State Museum and the Museum of Diamonds are in fact four titanium, on which the museum interest of all travelers rests. It must be said that the museum square itself periodically serves as an exhibition platform. Sometimes on its perimeter walk funny elephants with the faces of famous politicians - as an installation in the open air.

Family affair

It sounds absurd today, but Van Gogh's contemporaries advised him to quit brushes, and his family - to destroy the work. Only the dedication of John and the dedication of Theo to his brother were able to save the artist's artistic heritage. Vincent's nephew, son of Joanna and Theo, later became an engineer and took a direct part in the design of the museum building. He tried to bring comfort to the building and create all the necessary conditions for a calm contemplation of the artist's works. The Van Gogh Museum turned out to be light, filled with light, with a lot of open galleries. Dr. Van Gogh devoted to the design and operation of the museum all his life. His loyalty to the family and devotion to his uncle's work brought tangible benefits - today the museum has become a place of pilgrimage for art lovers from around the world.

Exhibits

In addition to 200 paintings by Van Gogh, 500 of his drawings and 700 letters, the museum keeps a collection of Japanese painters favorite prints.

Works of the master are presented in chronological order. The exposition of the Van Gogh Museum is divided into separate periods, describing the creativity and life of the artist. The first exhibition is devoted to the artist's art during his stay in the Netherlands. There are expositions of Paris, Arles, San Remy and Auvers-sur-Oise.

Each exhibition is a guide to a certain stage of the artist's life, with each picture and drawing revealing the inner world of Van Gogh, the story of his experiences.

In addition to the artist's works, the museum presents collections of famous contemporaries of Van Gogh, such as Paul Gauguin and Toulouse Lautrec.

Creative laboratory of the museum

The uniqueness of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is not only in a large number of exhibits and its special history. Only in this museum, with an accuracy to the last brush, the artist's creative studio was recreated. Visitors get a unique opportunity not only to look at the works, but also to breathe in the smell of oil paints and come close to the artist's everyday creative life closely.

Working hours

The museum works from 10.00 to 18.00 every day, and on Friday the visits are extended until 22.00.

The popularity of Van Gogh is so high that the employees of the museum can not even dream about rest days. Even in the big New Year holidays, tourists are not deprived of the opportunity to touch the beautiful: the only day off in the museum lasts only one day - on January 1.
