The Evangelical Church in Lesotho is one of the main attractions of Africa, as it is the oldest Protestant church on the mainland. It was installed in 1833. For its erection, the best masters were assembled, and the Paris Evangelical Missionary Society became the initiator of the construction. But how can the temple be interesting for tourists? The Evangelical Church is located in the most beautiful valley of Maphutseng, between the small towns of Zugting and Mafeteng . Within a radius of about 40 kilometers there is not a single city or village. The nearest town is in the north-west, near Tsguting. It is there that the primary school of the Evangelical Church is located. But the attention of travelers is attracted by the temple itself, which is surrounded by virgin nature. Restrained style of construction, permeated with regular geometric lines, surprisingly harmoniously fits into the surrounding hills.
Here often there are not only tourists, but also members of the evangelical church, while both of them could not break the primordial nature of these places. The Maphutseng Valley is a great place to rest and restore spiritual balance.
How to get there?
The church is in the valley of Maphutseng, which is located in the south-west of Lesotho . You can get to it by going to Route R393, and in the area of the village Palmierfontein turn north. The signs leading to Maseru will help you to find the valley.
