History of the swallow's nest in the Crimea

An approximate date for the construction of the Swallow's Nest is the end of the 19th century. But then this building could not be called a lock, it was more like a wooden dacha, the owner of which was an unknown general.

And who then built the Swallow's Nest? After this site changed its owners several times, in 1911 he fell into the hands of Baron V. Steingel. He also rebuilt the dacha completely, taking as a model the German knight's castle. That's it to this baron and we are indebted for such an architectural monument.

After some time, the building became ownerless, and after that it was resold several times. And only in 1968 for the castle they decided to thoroughly take and restore it, after which it became accessible to visitors.

Description of the castle

The site allocated under the Swallow's Nest is small. The entire building in length occupies only 20 meters, in width and even less - 10. But the height of this building is 12 meters. Imagine what kind of view? Inside the Swallow's Nest once there was only one room in two towers, and the entrance hall and the living room below. A little later, when the castle began to wander from hand to hand, inside it was a restaurant, a reading room and until 2011 there was again a restaurant. Many tourists were not pleased with the presence of the latter, because it spoiled the whole impression of the excursion. But already in 2012 it was decided to clean the drinking establishment, and inside open the museum.

Outside the castle you will find a spontaneous small market, where you can find a huge number of souvenirs: ceramic, juniper and plastic crafts, corals and shells, paintings, photographs and postcards - in general, everything that will help you to remember this excursion for a long time.

"Swallow's Nest" - why so called?

Imagine what you will experience while you are at the top? You will be with the castle, as if on the edge of the abyss, and around you will be surrounded only by water, and fragile (with a kind of) walls. Although, the most impressionable can not climb the observation deck of the castle, but simply admire it from afar.
