Sights of Ulyanovsk

Ulyanovsk is a fairly large city. It is located in a picturesque place, where the two rivers - Volga and Sviyaga - converge as closely as possible. The city owes its name to the Great Leader VI. Lenin, whose real name is Ulyanov. Here Vladimir Ilyich was born, and it is with him that the main sights of the city are connected.

Today this modest house in Lenin Street is known to many people all over the world. It was here that the future founder of the world's first socialist state grew and grew up. Then the city was called Simbirsk. The house was bought by Vladimir Ilyich's parents, they lived there for almost 10 years, until they moved to Kazan .

Under the Soviet government, the house was nationalized, and in 1923 it was turned into the Historical and Revolutionary Museum. IN AND. Lenin. Later it was transformed into a Memorial Museum. The external appearance and interior decoration of the house-museum is restored with great accuracy.

In general, the museum is a unique monument of Lenin in his homeland, which has been open for visits for more than 60 years. And in 1973 he was even awarded the Order of the October Revolution. The beginning of the construction of the railway bridge was laid back in 1913. For those years it was a truly grandiose project. In its construction, more than 4000 of the best bridge builders and workers were involved. To great regret, in 1914 there was a severe fire, because of which the construction had to start from the very beginning. But even this peripeteia with the bridge did not end - in 1915 a large landslide from the Simbirsk mountain descended on it.

And in 1916, at last, the grand opening of the grandiose bridge in the whole of Europe took place. The first name of the bridge is "Nikolaevsky", later it was renamed the "Bridge of Freedom".

Over time, the car was added to the bridge. Today, after a number of reconstructions, the bridge looks impressive, especially at night, thanks to a special illumination.

Despite its clearly expressed socialist and anti-church name, temples and churches have been preserved in Ulyanovsk. Earlier, when the city was still Simbirsk, on its picturesque banks of the Volga towered its main temples, on the square, which was called Sobornaya, towered two cathedral. Before the revolution in the city there were 33 churches, a theological seminary, two monasteries and two religious schools.

However, by 1940 there was only a small churchyard in the whole city. We suffered very badly, but 4 more churches have reached our time.

Of course, later, with the cessation of the ardent persecution of faith, new churches and temples were built in the city. Old churches of pre-revolutionary buildings were also restored. And today, not one gilded dome rises above Ulyanovsk.

In the city there are a lot of monuments, the main one of which is undoubtedly the monument to Lenin, located on the main square of Ulyanovsk.
