Spermogram is a laboratory analysis used to determine the fertilizing capacity of sperm, as well as diagnosing certain diseases of the male reproductive system.
How to prepare for a spermogram?
To obtain more accurate results, the correct preparation for the spermogram is necessary. What does it mean? The fact is that there are some rules for spermogram delivery:
- 4-5 days before the analysis you need to refrain from sexual intercourse;
- since smoking, drugs, alcohol and antibiotics have a significant effect on spermogram, it is necessary to abandon them no later than 3 months before the expected date of the analysis;
- for a few weeks should stop taking food supplements and medicines, unless they were appointed by a doctor who gave directions to the spermogram;
- during the week you need to refrain from visiting the sauna, bath, do not take a hot bath;
- Reduce physical activity to an average level and lower a few weeks before the test.
How to take the test?
After the prepared preparation for delivery of the spermogram, the biological material is collected directly. Usually it is made by masturbation and subsequent ejaculation in a special container.
You can do this at home, but the spermogram is performed no later than 1 hour after ejaculation, so doctors recommend that you collect semen in the clinic where it will be further analyzed.
Basic errors with spermogram
Sometimes, having prepared correctly before the spermogram, a person makes a number of mistakes directly in the process of collecting the material. The main mistakes can be attributed to the following:
- sperm collected not in a sterile container and not in a special polyurethane non-toxic condom, but in a conventional latex;
- ejaculate not collected in full;
- the material was stored and transported too long and at the wrong temperature (the permissible temperature regime is from 20 to 36 degrees
Celsius).
How much is the spermogram prepared?
The results of the analysis become known 2-7 days after delivery of the ejaculate. They are issued without deciphering, because your physician is making conclusions.
When preparing the results, attention is drawn to such indicators: sperm motility, sperm acidity, ejaculate dilution time, viscosity, MAR test.
According to the results of spermogram the doctor can put one of the diagnoses: normospermia, oligozoospermia, astenozoospermia, teratozoospermia, azoospermia, aspermia.
