In the design of houses and apartments there is certainly a pair of cabinets that are designed to store a variety of small things. They are called in the old fashion "servants", and modern designers like to call them "slides" or "collector cabinets." In any case, whatever the name was, the serving of the sideboard does not change. They store books, services, souvenirs and other things.
The history of the sideboard comes from the 19th century. At first they were made exclusively from valuable wood species, but over time the racks became so established that they began to be made from cheaper materials. Traditional wardrobe cabinet for the living room should be low, so that any person can reach it.
But in the Soviet times the fashion changed, and the mass production of sideboards began, which reached the ceiling and occupied a lot of space in the room. Now the fashion for minimalism has returned again and modern sideboards for the living room occupy a minimum of space and sometimes consist of several narrow cabinets or pedestals.
Sideboards - the most popular furniture for the living room
Like cupboards, sideboards belong to cabinet furniture. Their style is quite diverse, but conditionally it can be divided into three areas: ethnic, modern and classical. Sideboards in the ethical style can be made of rough wood, they have bright stylistic features, reflecting the culture of different countries. The sideboard in the living room in the classical style can be styled for antique furniture, and the modern version has the simplest form of concise design.
Depending on the internal device, the sideboards can be divided into several main groups:
- Corner sideboard for the living room . Designed for large-sized rooms in which the issue of saving space is not worth it. Typically, the sideboard takes up one wall and part of the other wall. But there are models in which the "corner" is made purely symbolically and does not take up much space.
- Slide for the living room . This sideboard refers to modern furniture and can be installed in small living rooms. In the hills usually there is a specially allocated place for the TV and a curbstone with the accompanying equipment. The slide does not take up much space and consists of several racks, pedestals or shelves.
- Sideboards for the living room . Are intended for storage of a dining room of production, linen and products. The buffet is made of panel elements of different types of wood. The cupboard has blind glazed doors. Today, the buffets are no longer very relevant and are found only in the rooms, made in the classical style.
