Barbados has many architectural and historical monuments of cultural significance, one of which is undoubtedly the castle of Sam Lord.
The founder of the castle was known at that time as a pirate, who invented an interesting way to rob merchant ships: legends say that Sam Lord specifically left lighted lamps for a night on a rocky shore near his castle, misleading ship captains who thought they were sending their ships into a quiet harbor, but crashed against the rocks, and Sam Lord came in the morning to collect prey from the wreck of the ship.

Sam Lord Castle was built in 1820 and until recently it was believed that this is one of the most beautiful buildings in Barbados . The castle is completely built of coral limestone, and above its finish worked the most famous architect of the time - Carlos Rater, who was engaged in interior decoration in Windsor Castle of Great Britain. Until 2010, Sam Lord's castle was decorated with unique mahogany furniture and huge gold-plated mirrors, but after the fire in the same year from the castle of Sam Lord there were only walls.

For tourists, the Sam Lord's castle in Barbados became available in the middle of the 20th century and, although it has been thoroughly studied by historians during this time, it is widely believed that the pirate Sam Lord once hid the treasure, so today there are adventurers who dream of finding treasures, in fact, therefore, the building was under round-the-clock protection. After the fire in 2010, leaving only the walls of Sam Lord Castle, visiting it became impossible and even dangerous, but many people wanted to look at the legendary ruins. Currently, the castle is under reconstruction, the result of which tourists are predicted to be able to estimate in 2018 - here it is planned to open a chic hotel for about 450 rooms with restaurants, bars, spa and conference room.

You can take the bus to Sam Lord Castle by bus to Sam Lord's Castle, then walk a little, or get directly to the castle by taxi.
