There are four basic schemes for building dormer windows:

1. In the gable wall - arranged in the tongs, that is, in the upper part of the end wall between the roof slopes. This arrangement of the window does not require the arrangement of additional structures, and on the outer staircase through the window one can get into the attic space.
2. Dormer - the window is located above the roof slope, and it is necessary to conduct a thorough waterproofing of the roof and its reinforcement. There are many modifications of this kind of dormer windows.
3. Antidormer - when the window does not protrude above the roof slope, but it seems to drown in it, while reducing the useful area of ​​the attic. A simpler and more economical version of the dormer device.
4. Attic (inclined) window - located in the plane of the roof, can have different shapes.

Dormer windows are mandatory for any roof pitched structure, be it 1-2 or more pitched roofs. The dormer window on the broken roof is also a necessity, dictated by the design features.

The attic space must necessarily be ventilated to avoid the accumulation of condensation, which will lead to excessive humidity in the whole house. In addition, such windows provide natural lighting, which, of course, is very useful.

At the same time, there are no strict rules regulating the design of windows on the roof. The project is adjusted according to the architecture of the windows, the material of their execution, the purpose of the design, fashion and style of the house.
