Onion-Butter - Growing

Onions are a perennial plant that can grow on the same place for more than five years. In this case, the onion is winter hardy: during the winter it is not necessary to cover it with a plastic film. Onion-batun does not require special care, and therefore it is possible to grow it even for a horticulturist without experience.

When to plant the onion-bat?

If you want to plant a multi-year culture, then proceed in the middle of June to mid-July. For the first year the onion-batun will give 3-4 leaves, and in the second year it will be possible to harvest the first crop. As soon as the onion leaves reach a height of 10-15 centimeters, they can be used for food.

Onion-Batun: growing from seeds

Before planting seeds, they must be prepared in order to increase germination during active growth. It is necessary to pour the seeds into a container, pour water, mix and leave to infuse. Good quality seeds should sink to the bottom of the tank. After that, the seeds are harvested from the water and dried.

Seeds put in the ground to a depth of not more than three centimeters. After planting, they must be watered.

Once the seedlings have reached a height of 7-8 cm, they must be prepared for wintering: add humus or fine manure to the soil. After this, the plant needs to provide peace. Any work will need to be resumed only in March next year after planting the seeds.

Bow onion: landing in the open ground

For landing the coil is suitable for light loamy soil. Before you start growing onion in the open ground it is necessary to prepare the soil: make fertilizers (nitrofoska, humus, compost , superphosphate, potassium salt). If necessary, the land must be lime.

Before transplanting the onion of the baton on the bed, you need to carefully remove all the weeds and make the loosening of the rows.

Seeds are planted in the soil to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. The distance between the rows should be at least 25 cm. Then the sowing must be mulched with humus or peat.

Care for the onion-baton

Plant beds with a plant must be constantly loosened, cleared of weeds, keep the soil moist, and also every spring, mineral fertilizers should be introduced to stimulate growth: urea and wood ash are suitable for this.

If the crops are heavily thickened, then thinning is required:

Within a year it is necessary to make 2-3 fertilizing with mineral or organic fertilizers.

With the onset of autumn, dry leaves are cut, so that in the spring they do not delay the growth of new leaves.

The plant needs regular watering. With a lack of moisture, the leaves can become coarse and bitter. With excess water in the soil, the plant may experience oxygen starvation.

Onion-Batun: Diseases

If the stems have pale green spots that have a grayish-violet coating, then this may be the first sign of the presence of such a disease as peronosporosis (fungal disease). As a result, the onion-baton can die. It is necessary to conduct a course of treatment with copper chloride.

Larvae of onion fly like to feast on an onion pen that is inside the plant. Outwardly this can be manifested in the form of small grayish spots. To deal with these pests, it is necessary to introduce chlorophos into the soil in granules.

Why is the onion turning yellow?
