National Museum of Australia

In the suburbs of Acton, near the city of Canberra is the National Museum of Australia. Its exposition is represented by subjects that tell about the centuries-old history and culture of the indigenous people of the continent and the nearby Torres Strait islands. Most of the values belong to the period from 1788 to the Olympics, which was held in Sydney in 2000. The National Museum of Australia is considered the repository of one of the most valuable and large collections of drawings on the bark of the tree, made by the aborigines. In addition, the tools of the ancient Australians, the heart of the horse Far Lap, won the prestigious tournament, a structure that in the future was the basis for the production of the first Australian car.

The idea came true

At the beginning of the 20th century, Australian state authorities began to think about creating a museum, but two bloody world wars, devastation, and the global financial crisis prevented the realization of the plan. In 1980, when the country reached unprecedented heyday in many industries, the parliament issues a resolution on the establishment of the museum and the formation of its collection. So on March 11, 2001 the National Museum of Australia was opened. This event was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Australian Federation.

National Museum of Australia these days

Nowadays, the National Museum of Australia is located in buildings made in the style of postmodern, their area is 6600 square meters. The museum ensemble is made up of separate buildings, connecting together, they form a semicircle around the "Garden of Australian Dreams". This bizarre name belongs to a composition of sculptures depicting a map on the water, adorned with trees and herbs. In its center is the most populated part of the continent with road signs, tablets telling about the names of Aboriginal tribes, the boundaries in which certain language dialects are distributed.

The exposition of the National Museum of Australia is represented by five permanent exhibitions: "The Gallery of the First Australians", "The Intertwined Fates", "The Population of Australia", "The Symbols of Australia", "Eternity: stories from the heart of Australia".

It is interesting

The facade of the museum building is painted in unusually bright colors: orange, raspberry, bronze, gold, black, silver, which makes it noticeable and distinguishes from many similar buildings of the city. Another feature is the phrases written on the walls of the building (Braille was used), which even blind people can read. After the appearance of the inscriptions, the public of the city was stirred with indignation and indignation, as some of them were frankly provocative: "Excuse us for the genocide", "God knows," and so on. The museum management found a way out of the situation, the phrases were closed with plates made of silver.

Before entering the museum you can see an unusual orange sculpture, called "Uluru Line". It is made in the form of a loop extending over the peninsula of Acton. The deep meaning lies in the Uluru Line, because the loop symbolizes the intertwined fates of many millions of Australians.

In 2006, the National Museum was officially recognized as the most important tourist attraction in Australia.
