At the beginning of the 20th century, a railroad was built in Kenya , and for this, wood was constantly needed. Then the administration of the city of Nairobi decided to conduct an experiment and find out which species of local forest trees will most quickly grow on plantations. In 1907 a park was opened here, called Arboretum and representing an arboretum.
General information
The park pleased the then British governor, who ordered to build here the official residence of the head of state. The building is a palace and is called the State House (State House).
The first presidents of the country, however, were rare here: Jomo Kenyatta - the first leader resided in his hometown of Gatunda, and Daniel Arapa Moi - the second chapter, lived in the west of the capital in his residence in the Woodley area. But the third president of the state - Mwai Kibaki - still settled in government apartments. Now the so-called "White House" is not allowed visitors, but the territory of the Arboretum park in Nairobi is open for inspection.
