Museum of Bois-Cherie Tea


All connoisseurs and lovers of tea, as well as those wishing to expand their horizons, will be interested in the excursion to the tea plantation and the Bois Cheri Tea Factory. Visiting the museum and the plantation is the second stop on the "Tea Road" route, the first is the ancient homestead of the 19th century Domaine des Aubineaux, the third is St. Aubin with a visit to the sugar plantation and rum plant.

History and structure of the museum

Although Mauritius is more famous for sugarcane plantations, but local tea plantations of Bois-Cheri are often compared to Ceylon and Sri Lanka. With the Bois-Cheri plantation, there is a tea factory and a museum. Here you will learn the history of tea (in Mauritius it was introduced in 1765, however, it was grown only in the 19th century), consider the stages of production - from plantation to packing. In the museum you will see rare exhibits of ancient machines for processing tea leaves, as well as the most beautiful tea sets of the 19th century, a photo archive.

Not far from the tea museum of Bois-Chery is the tea house, where for tasting you will be offered several varieties of local tea and fragrant biscuits. The most popular among tourists are varieties with vanilla and coconut. Liked tea can be bought here, but it may happen that it will not be available.

Public transport to the museum does not run, you can get there by the "Tea Road" excursion route or by taxi from your hotel or the last bus stop - Bus Stop to Souillac, Savanne Road.
