La Vanilla Nature Reserve

The most interesting sight of the south of Mauritius was the stunning reserve of La Vanilla. At any tourist it is included in the list of obligatory excursions. Initially, this place was a small farm for growing and breeding crocodiles. In 1985, the farm turned into a huge zoo, which is accessible to all curious tourists.

Animals in the La Vinil Reserve

The reserve of La Vanilla is the only place in the world where huge giant turtles live in animal enclosures. There are more than twenty of them. Any visitor to the reserve can safely go to them in the aviary and even ride from above. Passing the aviary with the turtles, you will stumble upon the small jungle that was artificially created. This tropical corner has become a kind of a small museum of the island's brightest plants.

La Vanilla is known for its farm alligators, which are specially grown there. There are crocodiles there, the length of which is more than seven meters. The aviary with predatory reptiles is located just behind the tropical corner. On Wednesday and Saturday there is a real spectacle - feeding crocodiles. We do not recommend this to children. A small museum dedicated to these reptiles was created on the territory of the La Vanilla reserve.

Leaving aviaries with predators, you can see the mass of cells in which live small turtles, geckos, chameleons and iguanas. There is a small corner for amusing monkeys, as well as aviary for wild boars, deer and golden bats.

On a note

To reach the La Vanilla reserve, you will need to drive to the southern Riviera de Anguilles and drive about two kilometers. Your entire path will be accompanied by bright pointers, so you definitely will not be lost.

The reserve operates daily from 9.00 to 17.00. Children under three years of age are free, from 3 to 12 - 11 euros, adults - 13 euros.
