Monochrome embroidery

The popularity of monochrome embroidery has grown rapidly over the last ten years. Pictures created with the help of contour and monochrome embroidery, at first glance, seem simpler than works done in a wide range of colors. Feature of monochrome embroidery is a unique style and expressiveness. This picture is great for decorating any room and as a gift.

Experts say that this kind of needlework is very ancient. It was used in ancient Egypt. The peak of popularity of monochrome and contour embroidery falls on the Middle Ages. In the period from the 13th to the 16th century, many noble ladies from different countries of Europe were fond of this handicraft.

The main difference between monochrome embroidery is that one basic color is used in the work. Hence the name of this type of work. On the basis of the base color, several shades are used in monochrome embroidery, which makes the work diverse. The color palette for embroidery is selected as follows: black and white colors are added to the base color. Thus, the needlewoman gets a range of colors that differ from each other by one or more tones. Black and white can be mixed with absolutely all colors, therefore, the resulting palette turns out to be rich and harmonious.

When it comes to monochrome embroidery, needlewomen distinguish several of its main types: contour embroidery, blackwork and monochrome cross stitch. Each of these styles has its own performance characteristics, but any of the types of contour and monochrome embroidery is created according to the schemes.

  1. Contour embroidery. This style is quite simple in performance, but it has a special expressiveness. In the embroidery a special technique is used - a "counting cross". The main feature of this type of monochrome embroidery is the creation of only external outlines of the object. In works there is a certain understatement, which makes them even more original. Schemes of this monochrome embroidery can easily be created independently, using only your own imagination.
  2. Blackwork. Embroidery in the style of blackwork is created on the basis of two colors - black and white. In this style, the "back needle" technique is used. Stitches, row after row fill the fabric, forming a black and white pattern. In the style of blackwork, sometimes monochrome cross-stitch is used - this is convenient for filling some large elements of the drawing.
  3. Monochrome cross stitch. This style is the most difficult and painstaking. Using threads of one color scheme allows you to create a complex picture. Monochrome embroidery by a cross means filling the entire fabric with a color. All the elements of the picture are made with threads, the white sections of the fabric are absent in the work.
